Antioch ranked #3 on the list of “Top 100 cities with the longest commuting times with a population over 50,000". Antioch was founded in 1849 by two brothers, William and Joseph Smith. In the past, Antioch had coal mines and asparagus canneries. The first bridge to Sherman Island was built in 1926. Antioch is one of the oldest towns in California, having been founded in 1850. The year following the discovery of gold, there was a plague that over-took the city and wiped out most of the population.
