Lakewood, New Jersey - Facts & Figures
Lakewood, New Jersey has a history of relationships with the wealthy: the town was the chosen spot for the Rockefellers, Astors and the Vanderbilts in the 19th century. Other members of the upper crust of New York society came to Lakewood for the beautiful lakes and to associate with one another. Though the Rockefellers are no longer there, the grounds of their home still remain. The county owns them and has turned them into the Ocean County Park.
Other draws to Lakewood include restored mansions, the Strand Theatre, golf resorts, and reduced sales tax rates. Lakewood is home to Georgian Court University and one of the largest yeshivas in the world.
