Danbury, Connecticut was named in 1867 after an English town, but was often called Beantown for the large amount of beans grown in the area. Today, Danbury instead relies heavily on their retail trade as home to a huge shopping center, The Danbury Fair Mall, which was built on the site of the old produce market. The organization City Center Danbury has also helped to add to businesses within the community by developing and rejuvenating the downtown area. Danbury comes in sixth on Connecticut Magazine's major cities list, which is based on education, crime and economic conditions.
