Litchfield, Connecticut was founded in 1721 and became populated during the Revolutionary War, as Colonials looked for a safe place outside of British-occupied large cities. The town was the site of one of the first female colleges, and their reputation for education was well-established for over 100 years. Litchfield declined, though, due to the lack of railroad access for the town, and has stayed a small community to this day. It is now considered a historic town, with much of its original look still intact.
