Damascus is an unincorporated area on Montgomery County, Maryland. Damascus High School is regionally and nationally well-known for its championship athletics teams. Over the last two decades, much of the farmland around the city has been converted to housing because federal agencies and private corporations opened offices in Montgomery County and drew newcomers to the area. The countryside around Damascus remains rural, but Damascus is a commercial center for the communities of Clagettsville, Browningsville, Cedar Grove, Woodfield, King's Valley, Purdum and Lewisdale.
