Durham is the home of Duke University and North Carolina Central University. It is also part of the Research Triangle Park, which is a large research park in North Carolina. Durham is the core of the four-county Durham-Chapel Hill Metropolitan Area. The city was once part of The Great Indian Trading Path for Native American commercial transportation routes. Later the city was well known for its tobacco products. Now the city partakes mostly in technology and health care services.
