Corpus Christi is a coastal city in South Texas and is also known as the "Sparkling City by the Sea." The Latin name actually means "The Body of Christ" and was given by the Spanish settlers in honor of the Sacrament. Corpus Christi is the original home of the burger joint Whataburger and AEP Texas. Most of the city's population is employed in the services, wholesale and retail trades, and government sectors. They have a below average unemployment rate and hold the position of being the 5th largest U.S. port. Corpus Christi is the deepest inshore port on the Gulf of Mexico, handling predominantly oil and agricultural products.
