Dallas County, Texas was founded in 1846 and most likely named for George Mifflin Dallas, the 11th Vice President of the United States. The county seat of Dallas County is Dallas, and the county encompasses more than 30 towns. The land mass of the county encompasses 908 square miles. During a visit to Dallas County in 1963, President John F. Kennedy was shot by Lee Harvey Oswald, who was positioned at The Texas School Book Depository building. Today, the Sixth Floor Museum is dedicated to the late president's memory.
